OHTSL Player Leadership Council

About The Player Leadership Council

The Ohio Travel Soccer League (OHTSL) Player Leadership Council, led by OHTSL Director of Coaching Marcie Schwartz, will be made up of a group of 20 players, both boys and girls, who encompass the membership of our organization.  This group was created to allow rising 7th and 8th graders an opportunity to enhance their leadership skills and abilities both within sport and life.  Throughout the seven 60 minute sessions we will be discussing different leadership styles, who is your audience and how can you accommodate their learning styles, how can you grow as a leader, what challenges might be faced in leadership as well as many other topics.  While there will be some light learning to do independently, our group and small group discussions during season will allow for instant application into your team environments.

If you are interested please fill out the application and submit by 8/1/26, as we will begin 8/23/26.

2026 - 2027 Player Leadership Council Schedule

What Other Have To Say About The Leadership Council Program...

I think the leadership program was a wonderful experience for me to strengthen my leadership skills. I was able to start better instructing the team I already lead, and have started to be more vocal on my club team. The lectures were paced well and were always understandable. Overall it was just a pleasant experience.

I believe the Leadership Council has been very beneficial for my son (Titus). Identifying behaviors that exemplify good leadership, and behaviors that do not support good leadership, has been eye opening for Titus. These are lessons that I have tried to teach throughout the years, but sometimes the familiarity of a father/coach (of which i am both) makes is difficult to accomplish. Your support and guidenace Marcie, has been very much appreciated. I am excited to see Titus continue to grow in his leadership on and off the pitch.

The OHTSL Leadership Council has taught me wonders. How to be a leader, talk like a leader, and lead like a leader. Marcie makes it easy to understand and rephrases our questions for a better understanding. So, as Steven Wright once said, “So far, so good.”

Green means go: a positive mindset and a quick reset. The OHTSL Leadership Council taught me a strategy for shifting my mindset back to something positive when things weren’t going my way. I adapted the idea slightly—rather than keeping the green box in my shoes like it was originally explained, I put it on my wrist so I could always see it. That constant reminder helped me prove myself to a coach because it pushed me to get back into the “green,” even when things weren’t going my way. It also helped me focus on supporting my team, especially during moments when everyone was feeling down. This and other techniques I learned have continued to help me day to day over these past five years since I participated in the leadership council.

I was in the OHTSL council in 2024. I was extremely fortunate to be given the opportunity to participate in the OHTSL council helping me sharpen leadership qualities. The council shaped me as a leader and captain preparing me for my freshman year of High school soccer and second year captain of my ECNL team. The OHTSL program lead me to becoming Medina first Freshman All-America. As one of the youngest players on the field, having to compete and lead my teammates that were older than me. The OHTSL guided me to become a more confident leader on and off the field.

I am a current junior at Holy Name High School. I was part of the Inaugural Group for the OHTSL Leadership Council, my 8th grade year when I played for Parma Soccer Club. I am now a varsity captain for Holy Name and I am a part of the club team who won the National Cup this past summer in Denver. I believe the tools and skills I gained during my time with the council have stayed with me and have contributed to my success on and off the field. It has helped me find my confidence and being a better person, not just for myself but for my teammates, family and friends. I look forward to applying these skills next year when I am applying for college.

I am writing to share my experience with the Leadership Council and the significant impact the program has had on my personal development. Being a part of this organization has taught me the importance of self-advocacy and has inspired me to use my time to motivate my peers. It has helped me view myself as someone capable of supporting others while continuing my own growth. Furthermore, the program has empowered me to become a stronger individual and a more resilient athlete on the field. In summary, this program has helped me beyond soccer, and to be the best person I can be. I am incredibly grateful for the opportunities this program has provided me.

Brittany Bradich
Mom of Sage Braydich - OHTSL PLC Alumni - Class of 2025

The OHTSL Leadership Council helped Sage shift her mindset from simply winning to prioritizing growth and development. She learned to channel her competitive drive into improving her potential and began to see challenges and mistakes as opportunities rather than setbacks. The program also reshaped her view of leadership, helping her understand that being the “best on the team” is different from being the “best for the team.” She discovered that her impact is greatest when she uses her drive to uplift others, and that asking for support makes her stronger, not weaker.
